Description: dumprep.exe is located in the folder C:\Windows\System32.
File dumprep.exe is a trustworthy file from Microsoft. The program is not visible. The application is loaded during the Windows boot process (see Registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run).
SYMPTOMS: While a Microsoft Windows XP-based computer starts, the Windows XP-based computer may run slowly. Additionally, you may receive Dumprep.exe error messages.
CAUSE: This issue is typically caused by hardware issues or damaged registry entries.
Method 1: Use the System Configuration Utility to disable the Dumprep.exe
1. Click Start, click Run, type msconfig in the Open box, and then click OK.
2. Click the Startup tab.
3. Click to clear the dumprep 0 -k or dumprep 0 -u check box, and then click OK.
4. Control Panel-->System-->Advanced Tab-->Startup And Recovery Tab (Settings)-->Write Debugging Information (select "none").
5. Restart the computer.
Method 2: Use Registry Editor to remove the Dumprep.exe entry
1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
2. Locate and then click the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
In the right pane, click Dumprep, and then press DELETE.
3. Restart the computer.
